Ops Console / Module 02 / DMAIC
Run the gain in, then lock it down.
DMAIC is the five-phase project for problems too big for a quick fix: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control. It gives structure to the harder improvements and pulls your other tools in along the way.
A five-phase improvement project: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control. The disciplined version of the same logic the other tools use.
For a bigger problem that needs data and a real project, not a quick fix. It pulls in 5 Whys, Fishbone, and Pareto as you go.
Work the phases in order, set the current stage as you progress, and do not move on until each phase has an honest answer.
// FRAME THE PROBLEM
// GET THE BASELINE
// FIND THE ROOT CAUSE
// TEST A CHANGE
// HOLD THE GAIN
Define: reprints at 4% cost 6% of flatbed hours; target under 2%. Measure: baseline 4.1 per 100 jobs from the reprint log. Analyze: Pareto shows color drift drives 60%; root cause is no color-target sign-off. Improve: add a sign-off; pilot drops it to 1.6. Control: sign-off is now standard, the lead operator reviews the log weekly.
