What it is

A goal run through five tests: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound. A goal that passes all five is one a person can actually act on.

When to use it

Whenever you set a target with someone, in a review, a project, or a development plan. It turns "do better" into something you can both track.

How to run it

Answer each of the five prompts honestly. The statement at the bottom assembles your answers into one clear goal you can post and own.

Worked example: cut makeready time

Specific: reduce average makeready time on Press 2. Measurable: from 28 minutes to under 18. Achievable: yes, by applying the SMED changeover plan we built. Relevant: it frees press hours during our busiest quarter. Time-bound: by the end of next month. The statement reads as one sentence the operator can post at the press and own.
