Ops Console / Module 07 / Skills Matrix
See the skill that lives in one head.
A skills matrix maps who can do what across the team, scored from cannot to can-train-others. It turns a vague sense of coverage into a clear picture, surfacing the gaps where no one is capable and the single points of failure where only one person is, the risks that quietly threaten every deadline.
A grid of who can do what. People down the side, skills across the top, each cell scored from cannot to can-train-others. It makes the team's real capability visible.
For cross-training, scheduling, and risk. It exposes the skills only one person holds, the gap that turns a sick day into a missed deadline.
List your people and the skills that matter, then score each honestly from 0 to 4. The summary flags coverage gaps and single points of failure.
Levels: 0 none · 1 learning · 2 can do · 3 proficient · 4 can train others. A gap is a skill no one can do; a single point of failure is a skill only one person is proficient in.
Five operators are scored across print, laminate, cut, and finish. Print and cut look healthy, with three or four people proficient. But only one person scores a 3 on the laminator, a single point of failure: if they are out, wide-format laminating stops. Finish has no one above a 1, a coverage gap. The matrix turns "we are probably fine" into a clear cross-training plan.
