Ops Console / Module 02 / Standard Work
Write down the best way, then beat it.
Standard work is the current best way to do a job, documented step by step with times, key points, and reasons. It is the baseline you train to and the line every improvement has to beat. Without it, the gains from every other tool quietly leak away.
The current best way to do a job, written down: each step, its time, the key point, and the reason. The baseline every improvement is measured against.
For any repeated job. Without a standard there is nothing to improve and nothing to train to; every operator does it differently.
Watch the job, break it into steps, time each one, and capture the key point and why it matters. Then it becomes the standard to train and improve.
Four steps: load and align (20s, key point: registration to the guide, so the print sits square), feed through laminator (35s, key: steady feed, so no bubbles), let cool (30s, key: full cool, so the edge does not lift), trim to size (25s, key: blade depth set, so no scoring of the bed). Total 110 seconds; if takt is 130, the job has headroom.
