What it is

The improvement loop: plan a change, do it on a small scale, check the result against your prediction, then act by adopting, adjusting, or dropping it.

When to use it

Any time a 5 Whys or Pareto points you at a fix and you want proof it works before rolling it shop-wide.

How to run it

Fill Plan before you start, log Do as you run the test, record Check with real numbers, then decide in Act and loop again.

Worked example: a makeready sign-off

Plan: reprints from color drift; add a color-target sign-off; measure reprints per 100 jobs; predict a drop from 4 to under 2. Do: ran it on the night shift for two weeks. Check: reprints fell to 1.6, matching the prediction. Act: adopt it, add the sign-off to the standard makeready checklist, and loop on the next cause.
